FACILITY RENTAL
BALLET DES MOINES LAURIDSEN CAMPUS FOR ARTS AND EDUCATION
BDM’s campus is a welcoming, accessible, and safe space for creativity, learning, and artistic expression. We believe that shared community space is necessary for a healthy and vibrant arts ecosystem. In addition to our professional ballet company, this is a place for community partners, teaching artists, educators, and eligible organizations.
The Vision
The intention behind this campus is to expand access to creative, innovative, and inspiring programs that build artistry, empathy, and community. Leading by example and with the help of our community partners, campus programming will forge connections, open doors, and foster vibrancy in our region.
Checklist for community program eligibility:
⬜ Mission and values alignment with BDM
⬜ Programs supplement/complement BDM and partner programs
⬜ Organization and facilitator agree to BDM code of conduct and rental
agreement
Prioritization:
1st priority given to programs serving BIPOC and underserved communities
2nd priority given to BDM employees
3rd priority given to teaching artists whose work complements and expands the current opportunities in the DSM region.
Application Preface
Partners interested in renting facilities at BDM’s Campus are required to complete the below application, provide a Certificate of Insurance upon request, and comply with all policies, guidelines, laws, and rules that govern BDM. Completion of the application does not authorize approval for use, nor does it assure availability. In addition to completing the Facilities Use Application, all prospective partners and renters are required to abide by BDM’s Rules and Regulations.
The Space
The Ballet Des Moines Campus for Arts and Education is a 9,000 sq ft facility located at 655 Walnut St, Suite 120, Des Moines, IA 50309. In addition to the selected facilities, all rental agreements include access to six gender-neutral restrooms, central HVAC, wifi (guest network), and drinking water. Additional facilities are listed below:
Prairie Meadows Studio (Large Studio)
Facilities include:
2,000 sq ft studio space (Approximately 55’x36’)
New sprung, marley floors
Full length mirror wall
Floor mounted barres
Integrated sound with microphone capabilities
Lobby
Facilities include:
Modular tables seating for 12
Screen with casting capabilities
Smull Studio (Small Studio)
Facilities include:
1,000 sq. ft. studio space (approximately 37’ x28’)
New sprung, marley floors
Full length mirror wall
Floor mounted barres
Integrated sound with microphone capabilities
Conference Room
Facilities include:
Modular tables seating for 12
Screen with casting capabilities
Booking Requirements
Prior to the confirmation of booking, all renters are required to:
⬜ Complete the application in full;
⬜ Sign the Facility Usage Agreement;
⬜ Provide a Certificate of Insurance, as stated in Facility Usage Agreement;
⬜ Make a $100 Cleaning/Damages refundable deposit (cash or check)*
* The Cleaning/Damages Fee will be assessed after the Rental Time and charged immediately. If additional cleaning/repair work is required, Renter will be required to ensure that BDM holds a minimum of $100 before subsequent rental events.
Rental Rates
The above rates are for the 2024-25 season and are subject to change. Specific rates will be set following the receipt of a full application. For questions regarding your specific rate, please contact campus@balletdesmoines.org following the submission of your application.
If additional BDM staff are required for events, they will be compensated $50/hr and included in the total Rental Fee. Additional Security will be determined based on the needs of the event and the cost of said security (rates may differ depending on need). Costs for additional security will be included in the Rental Fee.
Renter acknowledges that Rental Fee rates are set on a sliding scale and charged by the hour, with a minimum rental period of one hour. Rental Fee rates are reviewed annually, and rates may be changed at any time with written notice to Renter. Renter acknowledges that Recital/performance rentals that involve use of the studio theater and its equipment are priced at a different rate than normal rentals.
