Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Statement

Ballet Des Moines embraces inclusion, diversity, equity, and access. We recognize that in order to fulfill our mission, we have a responsibility to ensure our programming and planning approach employs this lens, engaging and amplifying voices from underrepresented communities. We believe in equitable access and opportunity for all communities, and that the inclusion of diverse perspectives enriches what we do and who we are, strengthens our organization, and makes ballet a more powerful cultural experience. 

Dance companies, like most non-profits, exist to serve their community. They survive because of their community. We deeply value every person who engages with our work, and we are especially grateful to those patrons who help make up the more than 50% of our budget that comes from donations and grants. Every gift matters, and your donation directly supports our artists, our productions, our visiting choreographers, and our education and outreach programs. With your help, Ballet Des Moines will continue to innovate and expand access to the arts across our region, through robust partnerships including Iowa PBS, 4H, ISU Extension and Outreach, and Des Moines Public Schools, our programs aim to remove barriers to access and inspire curiosity and creativity in every pocket of our community, ensuring our region remains a vibrant, diverse, and dynamic place to live, work, and play.
