Finance and Development Manager
Schedule: Full Time
Hybrid on-site/remote work, based in Des Moines, IA
Salary range: $50,000 – $70,000
Position Summary
The Finance & Development Manager will be a vital part of Ballet Des Moines’ administrative team, with key responsibilities related to the day-to-day financial operations of the company. He/She/They must be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment that requires an ability to adapt to shifting priorities, a sense of urgency, and a commitment to excellence. They must be comfortable in a start-up style atmosphere that requires creativity, excellent communication, initiative, and a positive attitude.
Primary Roles
Ensure accurate and timely Quickbooks data entry, working closely with the CEO and leadership team to create reports such as P&L statements and monthly financial snapshots.
Develop, maintain, and improve the efficiency of the organization’s development operations, specifically as it relates to our donor and grant management system, Bloomerang, and its integration with Quickbooks.
Handle all accounts payable and receivable, generating invoices and processing payment documentation and execution.
Ensure the functionality, accuracy, and integration of Ballet Des Moines’ donation and purchase platforms, including website transactions, event software, donor advised funds, and written pledges.
Deposit and track donations, reflecting each gift accurately and completely in Bloomerang.
Keep meticulous donor records, including contact and organization details, donation tracking, Maintain timely gift acknowledgement processes, including tracking pledges and pledge payments, and end of year donor statements.
Generate ad-hoc reports to support in prospecting, research, mailings and beyond, as needed.
Oversee a comprehensive calendar of deadlines for planning and submitting letters of inquiry, proposals, grant reports, mailings, donor communications.
Together with the leadership team, perform routine reconciliations, ensuring our development systems align with and complement our financial systems.
Work with external accountants to oversee payroll, benefits, and tax/audit requirements.
Oversee institutional insurance policies, generating proof of insurance documents when required
Other administrative tasks including mail pick up and sending packages.
Internal coordination
Attend weekly staff meetings, pro-actively participating and collaborating with colleagues and giving fundraising updates/reports.
Attend and take a leadership role in facilitating BOD Development Committee meetings
Collaborate on team-wide development and public engagement-based projects, including fundraising campaigns and special events.
Interact with all BDM staff on a regular basis to maintain up-to-date knowledge of BDM’s activities and programs to facilitate seamless support for financial implications.
Required Experience and Skills
BA/BS degree in finance, accounting, business administration or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency with a minimum of three years of hands-on experience in effectively managing grants and overseeing financial operations within the nonprofit sector.
Quickbooks and nonprofit CRM experience and/or proficiency required, including working knowledge of grant management processes, budgeting, financial analyses, and interpretation of complex financial documents.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite applications such as Word and Excel and Google Suite.
Excellent writing, communication, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a high-performance culture.
Impeccable judgment and ability to hold confidential matters in confidence.
Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to balance professionalism and warmth while maintaining a sense of humor.
Comfortable working independently as part of a team.

Work Environment
Travel as required; may occasionally travel to sites that are not wheelchair accessible. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
